Last week, Meta Platforms held its annual event, Meta Connect 2024, on September 25-26. The 2-day event showcased groundbreaking technologies that are set to shape the future of extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI). As innovation enthusiasts, we’re excited to highlight some key takeaways from the event.
Quest 3S: An Affordable Entry into VR
The Quest 3S is a versatile VR headset that combines the best features of the Quest 3 and Quest 2, making it a fantastic entry point into virtual reality. With impressive capabilities, it supports a wide range of immersive experiences, from gaming to interactive applications.
One notable difference in the Quest 3S is its camera design, which features two sets compared to the pillar-shaped cameras of the previous models. This design allows for full-colour passthrough, enabling users to experience mixed reality. While it doesn’t have the depth sensor in the Quest 3, the Quest 3S offers higher resolution than the Quest 2, making it a perfect bridge between the two.
These features provide a glimpse of what makes the Quest 3S an excellent option for enhancing the VR experience. At Aequilibrium, we believe that VR is the future of immersive training solutions, and the Quest 3S’s affordability opens doors for more users to experience its transformative potential.
The Benefits of VR Training
The advantages of VR training are significant. It creates an immersive environment that captivates learners, leading to better retention and understanding. Users can practice skills in a safe space, free from real-world consequences, and experience lifelike simulations that enhance practical skills.
VR training solutions are easily scalable to meet various learning needs, ensuring everyone can access high-quality training. Plus, participants can engage at their own pace, accommodating diverse learning styles and schedules. Our recent webinar with Ent Credit Union and America’s Credit Union showcased how organizations effectively utilize our VR solutions for transformation. Read more about it HERE.
A New Era of Augmented Reality (AR)
At the conference, the Ray-Ban Meta glasses were also showcased. These glasses feature advanced capabilities like “Reminders” that capture images of what you’re looking at and send notifications to your phone. This functionality allows users to recall important moments or information easily. Users can even scan QR codes and call phone numbers directly, making digital interactions more intuitive.
However, Meta’s Orion was the star of the event for us. It represents a significant leap in augmented reality and embodies Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for the metaverse. While this groundbreaking product isn’t available for purchase, it offers a glimpse into the future of AR. A standout feature is an innovative wristband that uses electromyography to track hand movements, enabling intuitive gestures like pinching and swiping, with haptic feedback to confirm actions. Although it currently recognizes only certain movements, its potential for gesture recognition is incredibly promising.
At Aequilibrium, we are thrilled about the possibilities that Orion unfolds. To create remarkable experiences for our clients, we’re always up to date and actively engaging in conversations that embrace technological advancements. This glimpse into the future reminds organizations not to miss out on unlocking the transformative potential of immersive experiences. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology, we understand that it is not merely about keeping pace; it is an opportunity to shape a new horizon for training and development.
