This week, the VanUX Awards hosted its annual Awards Gala while announcing this year’s big winner. VanUX is one of the most prestigious awards in the Vancouver user experience design community and we are proud to be a Community Sponsor for this year’s event.
For the uninitiated, the Vancouver User Experience Awards is “an opportunity for growing startups, freelance practitioners, agencies, and user-centric enterprises to showcase their work and get recognized for the incredible experiences they create every day.”
The committee presents six awards for Emerging Experiences, Products, products for Good, Students, E-Commerce, and Marketing. UX for E-Commerce was added for the 2019 Awards. In addition to the six awards, the local community is also asked to vote on the best experience from among the finalists, across all categories, for the People’s Choice award.
And the Winner is…
Congratulations to this year’s winner, Microsoft Vancouver, for taking home the award for ‘Best UX for Emerging Experiences’ and overall ‘Best UX’. Microsoft Vancouver’s Dynamics 365 Guides is a mixed reality application for HoloLens that utilizes the power of spatial computing. During the demo, the designers of the app explained how Guides could be used to provide engaging 3D instructions anchored to the physical world. Having worked in the VR space and recently building an interactive experience for HoloLens ourselves, we were blown away with Microsoft’s experience and the potential of their emerging experience.
VanUX published the list of 2019 Finalists leading up to Demo Day on November 7, 2019. This year’s demo format was slightly different from last year. Last year, finalists presented their experiences to a panel of judges on stage while this year it was interesting to interact one-on-one with the designers and their products on ground level.
Last year, aequilibrium took home the top awards for the iOS mobile app built for Sneaker Con. The team took home the 2018 VanUX Award for ‘Best UX for Product’ and overall ‘Best UX’ for the year honouring the robust eCommerce marketplace app that enables sneakerheads to securely bid, buy, and sell sneakers from anywhere, anytime.
We look forward to seeing what’s in store for next year’s VanUX Awards. If you’re interested in designing and/or building a digital product, get in touch with us to speak about creating your next award-winning digital experience.
