Aequilibrium Employee Spotlight Series (Part 3): Meet Gabriel Carvalho

Thanks for tuning in! We are back with another Employee Spotlight of the week. We hope you’re enjoying this weekly read and getting to know our team members a bit more.

Gabriel Carvalho (aka Gabs) | Front End Developer

Today, we’ll introduce you to Gabriel, who recently joined the company from Fortaleza, Brazil! Being from such a sunny, beachy town, he sure loves working from home. But we’re hoping to bring him to Canada soon — we have sun and beaches here too, ya know.

Gabriel has been working with us since January and — fun fact — he reconnected with a former colleague from Brazil (who you’ll also meet in a few weeks from now!)

“I wouldn’t have grown if I didn’t have a great opportunity in my hands. And that’s what Aequilibrium offered me.”

Why did you want to work at Aequilibrium?

Actually, I was surprised when Josh (Recruitment & Onboarding Lead) talked to me. It was really unexpected since I had just congratulated a former workmate and friend (now a current workmate again, haha) for his new job at Aequilibrium. After that, the whole process started and I saw myself wanting this job so much, as this would be my first job abroad and 100% remote work.

As a Front End Developer, what’s your typical day like?

Due to the pandemic, I work from home mostly coding or looking for solutions to attend to the clients’ needs. I also get to work with a bunch of incredible folks from all around the world, each with their own culture, perspectives, and expertise in coding. By the end of the day, it’s rewarding as I evolve a little bit more… every day! Did I mention that I work from home?

What’s the most rewarding part about working here?

Well, there’s the fact that I have two teams to be a part of: Aequilibrium and Backbase, and there’s the fact that I can work 100% remotely. So I would say it’s a tricky question. Let’s call it a tie.

How is your current job different from previous jobs you’ve had?

New experiences, new folks, new opportunities to grow even more. See, I really liked my previous jobs, I’ve made a lot of friends and I learned a lot in the past 10 years or so, and I had a great time all those years, but one thing I had in mind was that I wouldn’t have grown if I didn’t have a great opportunity in my hands. And that’s what Aequilibrium offered me.

How would you describe us?

A growing company with great opportunities, lots of good people doing their very best to make us feel a part of a greater good.
